We are seeking to appoint a Cook for TS ROYALIST, a 24 metre offshore sail training brig based in Gosport, to start as soon as possible. The current vessel will reach the end of her service in November 2014 and MSSC is about to take delivery of a new square rigger which is being built in northern Spain. On acceptance all ships staff will move onboard to the new vessel for shakedown and then passage to the UK. Once in UK, after further staff training, the vessel will settle into its programme of cadet training in UK and near continent waters.
The vessel undertakes 6 day voyages for up to 24 Cadets at a time around the UK and near continent, from March to November. Between December and February, the vessel undergoes winter maintenance, including a docking, usually in the Gosport area.
Applicants should have the requisite experience and ability to cook at sea to provide balanced and nutritious meals for the embarked crew from a small galley, together with ordering and management of victualing stores. The ability to work effectively with permanent and relief crew members and young people is essential.
Prospective candidates should hold a Basic Food Hygiene Certificate and should also either hold a current Seafarer Medical Certificate, or be willing to obtain one.
The appointee will be required to become/remain a uniformed member of the Sea Cadet Corps and will be responsible to the Sailing Master, TS Royalist.
